The current home of POP is the beautiful city of Auckland, New Zealand, where Owner/Director Belinda Dunne welcomes international fighters on a regular bases.
POP was founded in 2004, and was originally named Primetime Events Management Group Ltd. In 2007 the name was changed to better reflect both the fighters and its public image.
POP has been responsible for many milestones in women’s combat sport.
It has held 18 large scale events that have all been televised in some form. Including a 6 part TV series on TV3’s Sunday afternoon show “ SPORTZAH” and a 7 part series on PRIME (the 7 part series was also aired on several European networks).
Amongst POP’s other achievements are:
- The first to run women’s MMA IN New Zealand
- The only fight card which have bought female fighters from America, Japan and Australia to challenge local fighters.
- The first fight group in NZ to have its event covered by media group 20/20
- The first NZ fight card to be previewed on American’s new TV show, KNOCKOUT SPORTS.
Where we are now
The founder of Princesses of Pain, Belinda Dunne has a plan to build a strong and reputable league whose name will be known to all sport and entertainment fans the world over. She plans to extend the league and have branches of POP in many countries. POP’S base is currently NZ but Belinda is confident she will soon be running regular events in her second home, America.
Currently in Development
POP has been working on growing both the novice base and the elite fighters. For novices we run a FRIENDLY event every 3 months. For the elite fighters we run events every 6 months and are looking for sponsors to bring more international competitors here, as well as taking teams of POP fighters to fight overseas.
Recently POP has received many enquires from America fighters, about how they can get a fight on a POP card. The feedback is there is a strong desire to have a division of POP on American shores and also for invitations to fight in NZ to be extended more often.
Belinda is currently looking at ways to make both of the above happen and is in discussion with some of the stars of women’s MMA about their involvement.
