The crowd was in a frenzy over some of the most exciting Ladies fights in New Zealand’s history. Even the ring boy competition triggered a huge reaction. Dave Nicholls was the MC. ICNZ provided the officials. Priscilla Northe was the official photographer. The NZMMA‘s FIGHTER of the Night award went to Tee Nguyen, and the FIGHT of the Night award went to FIGHT 4: Bonnie Porter vs Sarah Rankin.

Here are the official results with colorful comments as they were reported by NZMMA during the fights:

FIGHT 1: Miriam Tio vs Su-Lin Leong. Result: Miriam wins by unanimous decision in a ‘bloody close’ round!

FIGHT 2: Tuyet Nguyen vs Ursula Marshall. Result: Tee wins by submission rear naked choke in Round 3. After a Round 1 advantage to Ursula, Tee came back in Round 2, making for a very close and technical fight, with frequent submission attempts by both women.

FIGHT 3: Indy vs Stephanie. This is fight is a FRIENDLY, or at least it was suppose to be!

FIGHT 4: Bonnie Porter vs Sarah Rankin. Result: Bonnie wins by majority decision. This one is a battle, with Sarah utilising her reach to win Round 1, and giving Bonnie a good mouse above her eye. Bonnie comes back in Round 2, knocking Sarah down, using her superman punch and making Round 3 the decider. In the final round both women are tired but throwing everything into this fight. Bonnie has Sarah on the ropes resulting in a ‘bloody amazing’ fight from two excellent fighters.

FIGHT 5: Natasha Saddlier vs Krissy Pettman. Result: Krissy wins by majority decision.

FIGHT 6: Annalise Wood vs Anneka Boss. Result: Annalise wins by unanimous decision

FIGHT 7: Kupa Parker vs Morgan Web. Result: Morgan wins by majority decision. Another close fight

RING BOY COMPETITION: Congratulations to the RING BOY COMP winner Ritchie Hackney!

FIGHT 8: Jo Norman vs Shelley McBride. This is a demo Thai Rules fight.

FIGHT 9: Janna Vaughn vs Wendy Talbot. Result: Wendy wins by unanimous decision. This is between two very tough, skilled fighters. Both open strong and fast. Janna, a POP Champion, tries to close the gap, Wendy prefers the distance. Both women mixing it up in the clinch, often throwing each other to the ground. There’s a fight break due to blood on Janna’s face. This was a huge battle.

FIGHT 10: Kirslynne vs Vanessa. This fight is a FRIENDLY.

FIGHT 11: Tara Finderup vs Tairi Ford. Result: Tairi wins by unanimous decision. This was a fight that had the crowd going wild! Round 1 starts off fast and hard. Tara has to defend a rear naked choke attempt and ends the round defending some gnp from Tairi in mount (no strikes to face – this is a B Class rules fight). Round 2 is a standing battle with Tairi firing and Tara warming up. Tara initiates the take down. Tairi reverses. There’s chanting and screaming from the crowd. The judges end up deciding this fight. Well done from both women!

FIGHT 12: Tip vs Telea. Result: Telea wins by majority decision

FIGHT 13: Ruiha Epiha vs Charlene Watt. Result: Charlene wins by decision. Whoah… another fight that almost blew the roof off the ABA. One of the top fights of the night and a tough one to judge. Both women are happy to stand and trade hard. The crowd is on their feet going nuts. Ruiha ends rounds 1 and 3 in mount but the fight goes to the judges to decide the winner.

POP is now taking registrations for the next FRIENDLY sparring event this Sunday December 11th.

POP’s next FRIENDLY sparring event for women will be on Sunday December 11th. The FRIENDLY is a great opportunity to socialize with other women fighters and perhaps meet a future opponent. Its main focus is to give you the chance to spar against numerous ladies in numerous styles as some women don’t have alot of other women to train against. At a FRIENDLY you are able to spar as often or as little as you want, so for those who are traveling from out of town it is expect that you spar several different fighters and consider giving another style a go e.g if you are normally a stand up fighter why not try so ground aswell.

The next FRIENDLY public sparring event will take place on Sunday July 24th. We are currently taking applications for participation. The last two events have proved to be successful in giving novice female fighters much needed sparring experience with other Kiwi females. With participation from a dozen New Zealand fight gyms, female novice fighters from all over New Zealand were able to test out their martial arts skills against each other. Many of these fighters previously have been able to spar only with men, so this event has provided valuable training with other women. All fighters and their coaches were very supportive of each other with the single focus of boosting female fighting in New Zealand.

If you are interested in getting matches in kickboxing, grappling, and MMA at this upcoming FRIENDLY event, please fill in the registration form.
